proposing a ban on gas boilers in new homes, given the lower-carbon options now available.
While humans have known about a flammable gas in the ground for thousands of years, the first known use of the term natural gas didn t come until 1825, said Trish Stewart, a science editor at the OED.
It was linked to the arrival at the time of another energy innovation: manufactured gas, which was made by combusting coal, oil and other products. Snow has the bad habit of completely collapsing regions that aren’t used to experiencing it. In this case, Storm Filomena slammed into Spain and blanketed many of its regions, including its capital, with more snow than they had seen in decades.
Despite having been forecast as a red alert storm, the highest in the country’s warning system, Filomena took many regions by complete surprise. The central Madrid region, which bears the same name as the capital, was especially hard hit. On Saturday, images from its streets made their way across the country and the globe.

Spain will send special convoys carrying the COVID-19 vaccine on Sunday to areas cut off by Storm Filomena, the interior minister said.
The government is finding ways to ensure that the country s weekly shipment of the BioNTech-Pfizer vaccine can be distributed to regional health authorities by using police-escorted convoys.
