Ljubljana – The Biathlon World Championships 2021 starts next week in Slovenia’s Pokljuka in what will be the biggest winter sports event in the country so far. Slovenian biathletes have their eyes set on the medals, Janez Ožbolt of the Slovenian Ski Association said ahead of the tournament.
“Our goal in the men’s team is a medal, two rankings up to 15th place, two up to 30th, whereas in the women’s team we aim at one ranking up to 25th place and two up to 40th at least. In at least one relay race we would like to be among the first eight.

Pokljuka – The 2021 Biathlon World Championships, scheduled to take place in Pokljuka on 9-21 February next year, will have a new and special mascot in JurÄek the Gnome, who is joining the chamois as the informal mascot of all biathlon competitions on the Alpine plateau in north-western Slovenia.
“Pokljuka is situated amidst pristine nature and the chamois, the mascot of competitions at Pokljuka, has symbolised the connection and image of co-existence with nature from the very beginnings,” the organising committee said on Tuesday.
It added that, since the Biathlon World Championships will be the largest winter sports event in Slovenia ever, it had decided to present a new mascot for the occasion.
