Women more likely than men to follow Covid rules, research shows

MOST Scots are following the Scottish Government’s FACTS guidance on precautions to limit the spread of Covid-19, according to scientists, although women are better than men and young people at observing them. The findings came from a team at Aberdeen University who have been researching how well people in Scotland have been adopting the preventative behaviours. It is part of the nationwide Covid-19 Health and Adherence Research in Scotland (CHARIS) project. The results – presented at the UK Society for Behavioural Medicine conference – came after thousands of Scottish volunteers were interviewed from last June to establish if they were adhering to the guidance to maintain a tw-metre distance, wear face coverings and wash hands regularly.

As part of their research project, they interviewed thousands of volunteers to find out if they were sticking to guidance like two-metre social distancing, wearing face covers and regular hand washing. The team found that in general the measures like the Scottish Government’s FACTS advice are being followed by the majority of adults in Scotland although women are better at this than men and young people.

Covid Scotland: Aberdeen researchers find women are better than men at following coronavirus rules

Scientists at one of Scotland s leading universities have been researching how well people in Scotland have adopted Covid-19 preventative behaviours - and made some interesting discoveries. The results from the University of Aberdeen research shows that while the majority of Scots are following the government-issued guidance on Covid-19 - such as FACTS - women are better than men, and young people, at following the rules.   During this stage of the project, the team from the University’s Institute of Applied Health Sciences have focussed on adherence - looking at how well people are sticking to the rules and identifying if there are groups of people who may be less likely to comply.
