PolyU and Huawei collaborate to nurture ICT talent with leading digital technologies News provided by Share this article Share this article HONG KONG, May 5, 2021 /PRNewswire/ Deep learning has become a popular emerging technology in recent years. Many university students are eager to equip themselves with such knowledge and skills in order to capture the opportunities brought about by the developments of innovation and technology in various industries. The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and Huawei jointly organised an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Bootcamp in late April to share the latest developments of leading technologies such as digitalisation, machine learning and deep learning. Participants exchanged views on how to integrate digital technologies into different disciplines and facilitate interdisciplinary learning at local universities in order to create a digital + talent ecosystem.

New models reveal Saturn s hidden regions

443-301-7993 New Johns Hopkins University simulations offer an intriguing look into Saturn s interior, suggesting that a thick layer of helium rain influences the planet s magnetic field. AGU Advances, also indicate that Saturn s interior may feature higher temperatures at the equatorial region, with lower temperatures at the high latitudes at the top of the helium rain layer. It is notoriously difficult to study the interior structures of large gaseous planets, and the findings advance the effort to map Saturn s hidden regions. By studying how Saturn formed and how it evolved over time, we can learn a lot about the formation of other planets similar to Saturn within our own solar system, as well as beyond it, said co-author Sabine Stanley, a Johns Hopkins planetary physicist.

In Memoriam: Tso-Ping Ma, Professor of Electrical Engineering & Applied Physics

05/06/2021 Tso-Ping (T.P.) Ma, the Raymond J. Wean Professor of Electrical Engineering and Applied Physics and pillar of the SEAS community for nearly 50 years, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2021, at the age of 75, after a brief illness. Ma was an internationally recognized pioneer for his contributions to semiconductor science and technology - in particular, breakthroughs in advanced gate dielectrics, which paved the path for high-k dielectrics and extended the scaling of CMOS technology. His research also generated fundamental and lasting impacts on many other applied physics fields, notably ferroelectrics and ionizing radiation sciences. Ma was also an inspiring mentor, nurturing countless students, many of whom went on to become some of the most prominent and groundbreaking leaders in the semiconductor industry.
