MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Help is available for Shelby County renters who are having trouble paying their bills.
The Emergency Rental & Utility Assistance Program can pay up to 12 months of owed rent and utilities to those affected by COVID-19.
The third round of applications for assistance will be received May 1 through May 14 at midnight.
Free legal assistance is also being offered for those facing eviction. For more information on how to apply, click here.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. The Emergency Rental & Utility Assistance Program, a new program aimed at helping renters in Shelby County, will help thousands of households that are behind on rent and utilities or facing eviction as a result of COVID-19. The U.S. Department of Treasury has granted a total of $28.2 million to the City of Memphis and Shelby County (including 19.6 million to the City and 8.6 to the County) to administer the Emergency Rental Assistance (ERA) program.
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - Charleston County is opening a Mortgage/Utility Assistance Program for homeowners.
County officials say The Mortgage/Utility Assistance Program will soon help residents struggling to make mortgage and homeowner utility payments in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
This program is managed by Charleston County’s Community Development Department through HUD CDBG-CV CARES Act funding and officials say there is approximately $175,000 available.

“We know that many of our Charleston County residents are struggling to pay their bills due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” Community Development Director Jean Sullivan said. “The Mortgage/Utility Assistance Program will provide some needed relief for homeowners worrying about foreclosure or keeping the lights on.”
