Calling for the revocation of Darrell Allison’s appointment as chancellor of Fayetteville State University, the school s Faculty Senate voted Friday to declare that the search for a chancellor had failed, and demanded that interim Chancellor Peggy Valentine be installed to the position.
The Faculty Senate, made up of elected representatives from all branches of the school, met in open session Friday to consider a number of resolutions concerning the growing controversy surrounding Allison’s recent appointment to the position.
Among the issues causing concern for the Faculty Senate are allegations that Allison “lacks the requisite academic experience necessary to serve as the leader of an academic institution;” that he was not recommended by the search committee for the position; and that, as a member of the University University of North Carolina Board of Governors from which he resigned to pursue the FSU chancellorship he was involved in the selection

Romman “Smitty” Smith Jr. died Feb. 17 in his home at the age of 70, according to his family.
Born in Grande Ridge, Florida, to Romman and Josephine Smith Sr., Smith joined the Army at 19 and was stationed at several bases in Germany and in the United States, including Fort Carson and Fort Hood. He served as an infantryman and Food Service specialist, according to his family. He retired at Fort Bragg after serving with the Bravo Company 27th Engineering Battalion as a sergeant first class.
