Why Buhari s government is losing the anti-corruption war

Why Buhari s government is losing the anti-corruption war Wuse market in Abuja, Nigeria. Wikimedia/Horlanre63 Monday, March 8, 2021 7:41 AM UTC A major straw that broke the People’s Democratic Party’s 16-year rule in Nigeria was pervasive corruption. Nigerians voiced their frustrations by voting in the All Progressive Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, during the 2015 general election. Buhari promised to fight corruption, defeat terrorism and fix the economy. Two years into the second term of Buhari’s presidency, corruption remains intractable. Buhari’s anti-corruption fight rests on a tripod: implementation of Treasury Single Account, Biometric Verification Number (BVN) and ‘Whistle Blowing’ policy. These have received commendations as seen in increased savings. However issues like “politicisation of the anti-corruption fight” and refusal to investigate accusations have cast doubt on the fight.

Pantami s Dilemma, By Gimba Kakanda - Premium Times Opinion

Pantami’s Dilemma, By Gimba Kakanda 5 min read The choices before Nigeria aren’t as simple as they seem. The virus hasn’t neutralised kidnap-for-ransom, cybercrime, banditry and insurgency, which have stripped Nigeria of its sovereign integrity… Behind Nigeria’s problems, over the decades, have been the conspiracies of successive political elites to inflate and politicise population data for partisan agenda. Since those controversial censuses of the early 1960s, the credibility of population estimates across state boundaries has played out as toxic fights, especially between the North and the South, with the former singled out, although unfairly, for tampering with national data to maintain political dominance.
