At a time when the global pandemic is raging across the country, a significant step towards scaling up public health facilities in rural areas across the State was taken on Monday. In tune with the National Health Policy, the State government had decided to set up 16 new medical colleges in rural areas which will provide tertiary medical facilities.

Officials told to ensure uninterrupted oxygen supply to hospitals
District Collector Vivek Yadav on Monday inspected a German Hanger facility set up at Agricultural Market Yard in Tenali and said the district administration was gearing up to set up similar facilities at GGH, Guntur, Infectious Diseases Hospital, Guntur, and Area Hospitals at Tenali and Narsaraopet.

District Collector V. Vinay Chand has instructed the officials to set up village COVID-19 management committee in every panchayat. The team will be headed by Sarpanch, while ANM will be the convenor and Village Volunteers will be the members. He was speaking to MPDOs, medical officers, constituency special officers on containing and controlling COVID in peri-urban, rural and tribal areas, in a meet at the VMRDA Children’s Arena here on Saturday.

Of the 128 doctors, many haver turned COVID positive
There is a shortage of doctors in Anantapur district even as the number of active cases has been on the rise, putting inordinate pressure on the available government facilities.
In the 19 Community Health Centres, Government Hospitals and Area Hospitals managed by the Andhra Pradesh Vaidya Vidhana Parishad, there are supposed to be 292 doctors (sanctioned) of all cadre, but of them, only 128 have been filled and 164 are vacant, District Coordinator of Hospital Services (DCHS) N. Ramesh Nath said.
