GUWAHATI: After a four-day delay, vaccination for the 18-44 age group began in Assam on Wednesday, even as the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic is turning out to be deadlier for the state. Altogether 55 Covid-related deaths were reported on Wednesday, the highest recorded in a single day since the Coronavirus outbreak last year, health officials said.
Specially abled youths (Divyangs) and journalists below 45 got their first jabs on the first day. Though the ceremonious beginning was limited to the Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) and Guwahati Press Club here, state health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the drive to vaccinate the 18+ category would be in full swing from May 7.

New Delhi [India], May 2 (ANI): Strengthening the capabilities of the nation in the united fight against Covid, the Ministry of Railways has, amongst its multi-pronged initiatives, deployed nearly 4,000 isolation coaches with almost 64,000 beds.
To work concurrently with the states and in a bid to reach out as swiftly as possible, the Railway has drawn a de-centralised plan of action empowering Zones and Divisions to work out their Memorandum of Agreement for cohesive action. These Isolation Coaches can be easily moved and positioned at places of demand on the Indian Railways network.

Maharashtra: Palghar gets its first set of railway isolation coaches
At present, the Indian Railways has provided 161 coaches to different states and cities that have a capacity of 2538 beds but currently utilised to treat only 123 Covid patients.
Mumbai: The Palghar district on Saturday got its first set of 21 isolation Covid coaches that has the capacity to cater to around 330 patients. This comes at a time when the Indian Railways have converted 4176 coaches for Covid care across India. However, the larger issue is that the number of coaches being made available and currently used by respective state governments in taking care of patients is skewed.

As the country is battling the scourge of the second wave of Covid-19, Indian Railways has embarked upon a mission to deliver medical liquid oxygen to several crisis-hit states, while deploying a no-holds barred approach by re-mobilising its initiative of Covid Care Isolation Coaches.
Addressing the crisis, the Railways is to deliver more than 140 MT of liquid oxygen in the next 24 hours at various locations while one Oxygen Express carrying 70 MT of LMO was en-route to Delhi on Sunday night.
