[The Providence Journal / Kris Craig] PROVIDENCE  Nursing-home residents and staff in Rhode Island will begin receiving the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine on Dec. 28, with the first dose expected to reach all facilities within three weeks. Administration of the second required dose will be completed in all homes by the beginning of March.

The first COVID vaccinations in Rhode Island happened under the watchful eye of TV cameras, streamed live on national news.  Hundreds more followed once the circus left town: Lifespan, the state’s largest health-care system, had vaccinated 600 employees as of Wednesday, about 48 hours after the first shot went into the first deltoid muscle. Most of them happened at quiet clinics, chronicled not by professional reporters but eager selfies.  Lifespan expects to have 3,000 highest-risk employees vaccinated by the end of day on Tuesday at ongoing clinics. That represents the entirety of its first shipment of the new Pfizer vaccine, and most of its highest-risk employees.
