Students, Staff, Community Say Goodbye to Holy Cross School

Friday was not only the last day of school for students at Holy Cross Catholic School, but also the last day the school will ever be open.
Earlier this month,the Diocese of St. Cloud announced the school would close at the end of the school year.
Leanne Donnay has sent almost all of her kids to Holy Cross. She says knowing the school is closing is hard.
I have kids who are as old as 21-years-old who I sent to this school, to my four-year-old who we were hoping to send to this school. I m a teacher and have been to many schools and this school is a gem. It s really sad to see it go.
EDMONTON As parents of K-12 sent their children back to school on Tuesday, there was a range of emotions from those who spoke to CTV News Edmonton. One Edmonton mother told CTV News Edmonton she s really happy to be sending her kids back to in-person learning. They were so bored at home, the mother said. She said while she is confident her kids are safe to go back to school, she isn t convinced they won t be pulled out again before the beginning of summer vacation. Another mom, Naomi, told CTV News Edmonton she s been practicing safe habits such as mask-wearing with her Grade 1 daughter, in preparation for the return to class.
A GRACE news release said the donor wants to remain anonymous and have the attention focused on the teachers, who worked in person at the schools throughout the year. The Catholic school system said it implemented several COVID-19 safety measures to prevent spread of the viral and potentially fatal disease.
Jodi Sullivan, a first grade teacher at Holy Cross Catholic School, said teaching in-person during the pandemic was a challenge, but one the school system s teachers were ready for. We had to take so many things we do day in and day out and rethink those things, Sullivan said of measures taken to keep students safe.

(KNSI) – Community members and a teacher are reacting to the news that Holy Cross Catholic School in Marty will close at the end of the school year.
Parents, students, and teachers learned of the Diocese of St. Cloud announced Bishop Kettler’s final decision on Friday.
Holy Cross Kindergarten Teacher Katie Calhoun talked with KNSI about how she felt after hearing the news.
“I felt very sad. I’d been here for 27 years and disappointed with the outcome. We were shocked because we thought we had another year to build our enrolment.”
Holy Cross Trustee and life-long area resident Al Haus says he was at the February 3 meeting when the Dioceses told parents and staff that the school would be open another year.
