A message from the Churches

St Margaret’s, Dunfermline & Holy Name, Oakley “God’s ways are astonishing! To our astonishment, we see God acting exactly as we do: he sleeps, takes milk from his mother, cries, and plays like every other child! As always, God baffles us. He is unpredictable, constantly doing what we least expect. The nativity scene shows God as he came into our world, but it also makes us reflect on how our life is part of God’s own life. It invites us to become his disciples if we want to attain ultimate meaning in life.”  Pope Francis In this most baffling and unpredictable of years, may you experience the peace of Christ and share more fully in his life.

How to volunteer and donate in New Jersey during the coronavirus outbreak (12/20/20) Updated Dec 24, 2020; The holidays can be difficult for those coping with isolation. And, this year, the fight against the spread of the coronavirus has meant a necessary surge in social separation. For elderly individuals, loneliness can be especially difficult. At Harrogate, a not-for-profit life plan community in Lakewood, isolation of the residents has been a concern of the staffers this season. Kelly O’Toole, MSW, director of social services at Harrogate said, “COVID-19 has had such an impact on everyone, especially our seniors. The impact social isolation has on older adults can be detrimental. It not only affects their mental health but their overall well-being. It has been hard for all of our residents at Harrogate to have such a change in their routine both inside and outside of Harrogate. They’ve had to adapt to the ‘new normal’ which hasn’t been easy for them. Not being ab

Dr. Blythe Denham Kieffer The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light … on them light has shined. Isaiah 9:2 In her book “An Altar in the World,” Barbara Brown Taylor, Episcopal priest, author and theologian, reflects on her childhood and how her father taught her the practice of paying attention and the importance of reverence. She remembers with vivid imagery a warm night in August during her eighth year when she lay on a small wooden deck that opened off her parents’ bedroom with her father and sister. It was the first time she saw a shower of falling stars! That night she learned these falling stars are called the Tears of St. Lawrence and return every August.

Sounds of the Season: Conquering COVID with a Carol – WUFT

Sounds of the Season: Conquering COVID with a Carol Despite the pandemic preventing this year’s live concert, Dr. Will Kesling and the musicians prevailed in creating an amazing studio album instead. Produced by an award winning team in UF’s Steinbrenner Band Hall, the masked University of Florida Symphony Orchestra, University of Florida Concert Choir and Gainesville Master Chorale recorded their parts in small, spaced out groups for the safety of all involved. The musicians also traveled to recognizable locations around Gainesville for the filming, including UF’s University Auditorium, Celebration Pointe, Gainesville’s Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Tioga Town Center and North Florida Regional Medical Center’s duck pond. Where COVID-19 presented an obstacle, artists found a creative opportunity to spread holiday cheer. Don’t miss the premiere!
