The town of Marathon has seen a rapid jump in COVID-19 cases in recent weeks.
MARATHON, Ont. – The small town of Marathon is grappling with the rapid spread of COVID-19 cases, with two schools and a nearby mine now affected by outbreaks.
The number of cases in the town of just over 3,000 had risen to 16 as of Friday, just weeks after the community’s first case was announced on Nov. 24.
13 new COVID-19 cases announced in Thunder Bay District
The Thunder Bay District Health Unit is reporting 13 new cases of COVID-19, while the Northwestern Health Unit announced one new case in its Kenora region, on Friday.

MARATHON - COVID-19 Update - The Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) and the Superior North Catholic District School Board confirm that an outbreak of COVID-19 has been declared at Holy Saviour Catholic School in Marathon. Consistent with provincial guidelines, an outbreak is declared in a school when there are two or more COVID-19 cases
