The Hawks have arrested five police officers for fraud and theft of fuel allegedly using state fleet cards.
Hawks spokesperson in Limpopo Capt Matimba Maluleke said the five police officials aged between 29 and 40 were stationed at Groblersdal. In February 2020, the complainant, who owns one of the filling stations in the Groblersdal area, allegedly discovered that the cashiers, petrol attendants and police officials have colluded in using fleet cards (petrol cards) for their own benefit, including refuelling their private vehicles.
It is further alleged that the suspects would wait for motorists who would pay cash and swipe the fleet card in return for money and share it among themselves, he said.

A Free State fake advocate has been convicted of fraud for impersonating a defence attorney.
Ntate Manuel Mabesa, 53, was handed 10 years direct imprisonment in the Bloemfontein Regional Court on Wednesday after he was found guilty on charges of fraud, impersonating an attorney and perjury. It is alleged that in June 2014 Mabesa approached the prosecutor and offered him R500 gratification as a thank you for not opposing bail in a case where Mabesa was the defence attorney in a robbery case, Hawks spokesperson Captain Christopher Singo said.

The prosecutor initiated a background check on Mabesa and, after establishing he had offices at the Free State Bar, handed the matter to the Hawks for investigation.

An Eastern Cape woman who paid local women to marry foreign nationals by issuing fake marriage certificates has been convicted of fraud and corruption.
Women were paid between R200 and R300 each to marry Bangladeshi nationals. Other women were unaware they were married to foreign nationals.
The matter has been postponed to 18 February for sentencing.
