Coventry library offers lights for people with SAD

COVENTRY — The Booth and Dimock Library will be circulating light therapy lamps this winter to residents who may be suffering from Seasonal Affective Disorder, or SAD. SAD is a form of depression that follows a seasonal pattern that almost always worsening during the darker, winter months, according to Harvard Health. Light therapy, also known as phototherapy, is used to treat individuals suffering from the depression by exposing them to artificial sunlight in the form of fluorescent lights mounted on a metal reflector. Jennifer Chretien, adult services librarian, said she anticipates there will be an increased level of depression this winter due to the COVID-19 isolation.

Photo by Lauren Snyder | The State News Setting up one of the biggest General Assembly (GA) meetings of the fall semester, the Associated Students of Michigan State University (ASMSU) approved 14 bills in committee meetings Thursday, Dec. 3. The 14 bills went through the Academic, Policy and Finance committees.  The bills will be deliberated upon this Thursday, Dec. 10, at the last GA meeting before winter break.  Academic Committee Four of the 14 bills passed through the Academic Committee, and pertain to expanded culinary training, mental health days and a previously passed Open Educational Resources (OER) bill.
