Congress urges Om Birla not to suspend Opposition MPs for unruly behaviour in Lok Sabha
The government is contemplating moving suspension motion against as many as 11 Opposition MPs who resorted to sloganeering and throwing of papers towards the Chair in Lok Sabha yesterday. However, Congress has urged Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla not to suspend the MPs.
Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Congress leader in Lok Sabha, on Wednesday met Birla and urged him not to suspend MPs. He said that the MPs were raising the concern of the people and the government is not listening to Opposition parties.
Sources told ANI that Birla has assured him that suspension will not be done for now. It is believed that a new committee could be set up that will monitor behaviour of the protesting MPs and decisions will be taken accordingly.

He urged the Speaker to not suspend MPs and conveyed to him that MPs were raising issues concerning people and the government is not listening to Opposition MPs. If the Chair will also not listen to them (the opposition), then it will not be good for the democracy, sources said.

New Delhi [India], July 29 (ANI): While the meeting of opposition leaders was underway to chalk out a strategy on the Pegasus issue, Union ministers Piyush Goyal and Pralhad Joshi met them and asked the leaders to support the House to pass bills.
However, opposition leaders insisted on the discussion of issues like Pegasus, inflation, farmers issues, hike in petrol and diesel prices, sources said.
An all-party meeting will be called soon to discuss the issues, they added.
Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Wednesday had said that the entire Opposition is and will remain united on the issues of national security and farm laws.
