The Burnet Consolidated Independent School District has named Jennifer Stewart interim principal at Burnet Middle School.
Stewart will take over the role Jan. 5. Students return to campus Jan. 6 from Christmas break.
She steps in after the passing of Principal Jeremy LeJeune, who died Dec. 6.

The Marble Falls Independent School district plans to offer rapid COVID-19 testing for staff and students in the coming weeks, the school board heard at its Monday, Dec. 14, meeting.
The district will have several staffed trained in administering the tests, including school nurses and MFISD Executive Director of Instructional Services Yarda Leflet. The plan is to use a central testing location to minimize exposure on campuses.

The Burnet Consolidated Independent School District is now able to administer rapid COVID-19 tests to staff, and possibly students in the future.
Four staff members have been trained in administering the tests, Dr. Rachel Jones, assistant superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, told the board of trustees during its Dec. 15 meeting. The testing is voluntary and offered to staff who have symptoms or were in close contact with someone who tested positive for the coronavirus.

Shady Grove Elementary School’s Teresa Mather loved being a teacher and making a difference in the lives of her students, so leaving the classroom was the last thing on her mind. She had done it before as a reading recovery specialist before coming to Burnet, but returned to the classroom when the opportunity presented itself.
