A man who was found fatally injured a bath died as a result of being stabbed several times in the neck, police said.
Hassan Ghafar, 22, from Birmingham, was discovered with serious injuries at a house in Holly Road, Handsworth, on Sunday.
West Midlands Police said a post-mortem examination had revealed the cause of death.
David Swaby, 33, of Holly Road, has been charged with murder and appeared at Birmingham Crown Court on Thursday.
He was remanded into custody and is due to next appear at the court in April.

BIRMINGHAM: Two teenage boys charged with murder after a 15-year-old was killed in a daylight street attack in Birmingham have been remanded in custody until next month.
Keon Lincoln, 15, died of gunshot and stab wounds after being set upon by a group of youths on Linwood Road in the Handsworth area of Birmingham on January 21.
Two youths accused of his murder, a 14-year-old from Birmingham and a 15-year-old from Walsall who cannot be named because of a court order, appeared at Birmingham Crown Court on Wednesday by video link from separate secure youth detention facilities in the West and East Midlands. The teenager from Birmingham is also charged with possession of a firearm and the Walsall youth is charged with possession of an offensive weapon.

A 14-year-old boy has appeared in court charged with murder and possession of a firearm after a schoolboy was killed in a gun and knife attack.
Keon Lincoln, 15, was set upon by a group of youths with weapons in broad daylight on Linwood Road in the Handsworth area of Birmingham on January 21.
On Monday, a 14-year-old boy, from Birmingham, appeared at the city’s magistrates’ court accused of Keon’s murder.
He spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth during a short hearing.
