The 2021 annual gathering of the Southern Baptist Convention set to take place in Nashville, Tennessee, next month could be its largest one since 1995 if all of the more than 12,500 pre-registered messengers show up, according to Ronnie Floyd, president and CEO of the denominationâs Executive Committee.

The 2022 World Games are counting on some star power to help promote the event coming to the Birmingham-Hoover metro area next year, the chairman of the Alabama Sports Council told the Hoover Area Chamber of Commerce on May 20.
Organizers of the 2022 World Games have named soccer star Catherine Reddick Whitehill, Olympic gold medal bobsledder Vonetta Flowers, Iraq War veteran and âDancing with the Starsâ competitor Noah Galloway, NBA all-star Charles Barkley and country music legend Randy Owen as honorary co-chairs of the games, Nick Sellers said at the Hoover chamberâs monthly luncheon at the Hoover Country Club.

Protective Life Corporation will begin a series of meetings with residents in Birmingham’s Northside Community to discuss the new downtown stadium, which is expected to open in the fall.
D. Scott Adams, Executive Vice President Corporate Responsibility, Strategy & Innovation, for Protective, told the Jefferson County Commission that the company wants to “hear what’s on the minds of residents.”
Protective has naming rights for the $174-million dollar open-air stadium at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex (BJCC)
The meetings could begin as soon as this summer.
“We’re planning to engage in some community listening and roundtable discussions just to hear what is on the residents’ minds, both what they are excited about . . . but also what concerns they may have and how we might be able to address those concerns,” Adams told commissioners.

As Candice Jacquemin reflected on her first in-person 5K event in more than 13 months, she couldn’t help but acknowledge a bit of a running rust she needed to work out along a flat course through the neighborhoods of Gulf Shores.
“It was exciting and exhilarating to get out there,” said Jacquemin, 26, of Robertsdale, and one of 550 participants in Saturday’s Zydeco Crawfish 5K Run/Walk event. The event was the first non-virtual coordinate running event Jacquemin participated in since the Publix Atlanta Marathon, held on March 1, 2020.
