Hannah Vickers to leave ACE for role with Mace
Vickers joined the ACE in September 2018 from the Institution of Civil Engineers. Prior to this she worked for Infrastructure UK, part of HM Treasury and the Environment Agency.
TfN appoints new chief

Britain’s inaugural professor of ‘Black Studies’ has branded the United States of America a “racist project from its very beginnings”, akin to “Europe on steroids”.
Kehinde Andrews, who teaches at the publicly-funded Birmingham City University’s School of Social Sciences, told Bloomberg that the idea of “incremental change, progress within the system” in the United States frames the issues the country faces incorrectly, as “the actual system is the problem”.
“I mean, you have to understand America is a racist project; I mean, from its very beginnings what it essentially is is Europe on steroids; a place where European colonialists go and create a system built on white supremacy, which explains why there’s so much violence, why the police carry guns, why we’re seeing this play out today,” the academic alleged.

So far this year alone, Colombia has seen 33 massacres of social leaders, trade union organizers and ex-guerrilla fighters belonging to the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC). At least 119 people have been murdered by paramilitary groups, state security forces or unidentified assassins as of April 27, according to the Instituto de Estudio para el Desarrollo y la Paz, or Institute of Study for Development and Peace. My last book,
Black, Listed: Black British Culture Explored, contains the word “black” a total of 1,750 times. In a manuscript of 99,000 words, that constitutes 1.8 per cent. Two of these are in the title alone. To put that into perspective, if you removed 1.8 per cent of the population of England and Wales who, according to the 2011 census, identify as black African, you’d be getting rid of every black African person in those countries within the UK.

Hold Tight: Black Masculinity, Millennials And The Meaning Of Grime, was a “witty and perceptive, confident and charming” exploration of grime music (not my words, but who am I to argue with the critics?). The first page begins with the word “black” – “black music”, to be precise. The book also has the world “black” in its subtitle and features a whole chapter devoted to a song called “Black” and another about a song called “Black Boys” (I was once one of those too).
