In less than a week, the Chinese Tianwen-1 mission will enter orbit around Mars. And though the rover will not attempt to land until May 10 - three months after NASA s Perseverance rover lands - China s list of milestones in space has been rapidly growing in recent years. It was only last year that China joined the world s most elite club when it became the second only country to plant a flag on the Moon thanks to its Chang e-5 lunar lander.

Robert Vella replaces James Piscopo as Lands Authority head

Robert Vella has been appointed as the new Lands Authority Chief Executive Officer, the economy ministry has announced.
Vella’s appointment comes after a public call issued at the end of 2020.
Economy Minister Silvio Schembri said the Lands Authority will now pave the way for identifying means to ensure its efficiency, diminish unnecessary bureaucratic procedures, and better serve the public.
“Whilst building upon the significant work done over the past years, the appointment of the new Chief Executive Officer also signals the Lands Authority’s new phase of a more consumer-centric approach which will make it easier for the public to access the services of the authority while increasing efficiency,” Schembri said.

There are two elements to the energy performance of buildings: energy is used in the running of the building, primarily heating and lighting, and energy is used by the occupants for daily living such as cooking, refrigeration of food, laundry, dishwashing and so on.
I will explore both of these in a series of three blogs, this first one looking at the factors driving the energy use of buildings, and in particular the use of the Energy Performance Certificate. The second will look at issues surrounding measurement and the selection of energy efficiency measures, while the third will look at the energy use of building occupants. (Of course the issues of buildings and occupants cannot be entirely divorced in so far as occupants decide their preferred levels of heating, whether to turn lights off in empty rooms and so on, but there are fundamental properties of buildings which dictate their minimum energy consumption while occupied.)

Impeachment entered its second phase on Monday, when managers appointed by the House of Representatives delivered their chosen articles to the Senate. A bipartisan vote in the lower house impeached Mr Trump earlier this month following riots at the US Capitol, which politicians accuse him of inciting. The proceedings now go to trial in the upper house, and a conviction could alter his future political prospects, which rumours suggest could include an all-new political party.
