Delta resumes non-stop flights from Birmingham to Detroit

Delta to resume Detroit to Alabama route in March

Delta Air Lines will restart nonstop flights between Birmingham, Alabama (BHM) and Detroit (DTW) from March 4, according to the Birmingham Airport Authority.  Atlanta-based Delta will use a Bombardier CRJ700 on the route; it was not clear which regional airline will operate the flight under contract for Delta.  “This announcement is positive news for our customers, our airport and our region as we continue to navigate and overcome the challenges caused by COVID-19,” Birmingham Airport Authority president and CEO Ronald Mathieu said.   More DTW news

Hoover chamber hires new leader from YWCA of Central Alabama Toni Herrera-Bast 2 Toni Herrara-Bast is the new president and CEO of the Hoover Area Chamber of Commerce. The Hoover Area Chamber of Commerce has hired a new leader to manage the day-to-day operations of the chamber. The board of directors chose Toni Herrera-Bast, who has spent the past two years as vice president of public relations with the YWCA of Central Alabama. She was among more than 70 people who applied to fill the seat vacated by former Hoover chamber Executive Director April Stone in September. The chamber board changed the job title to president and CEO, but the duties will be the same as those held by Stone, said Paul Dangel, chairman of the chamber’s board of directors.

But what a year with the well-chronicled coronavirus pandemic that killed more than 300,000; racial unrest that created division in across many communities and a presidential election that was over until it wasn’t. And there was plenty of more to a year that goes down as one of the most memorable in recent history. Here’s some of what happened.
