New Initiative Created To Increase BIPOC Vaccinations In Burlington Area

Burlington weatherization ordinance meets approval for city apartments

Citywide weatherization of apartment units may soon become a reality for Burlington tenants. Burlington City Council unanimously approved an ordinance that would require city landlords to insulate their rental units on Monday night. Under the city s revamped energy efficiency standards, property managers would be mandated to address weatherization through air sealing, upgrading heating systems, replacing draft windows and doors, or insulating walls and attics in their properties. The ordinance comes as an effort to meet Burlington s Net Zero Energy by 2030 goal as well as address high utility costs for city renters. According to the Vermont Department of Health, weatherization reduces energy cost and usage, improves housing conditions, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and increases resilience to climate change impacts.

Team to clean up graffiti in Vermont s largest city

May 2, 2021 GMT BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) A team is being hired in Vermont’s city largest to clean up graffiti. “We are in the hiring process but you will see crews that are out and that are addressing, they are cleaning, and that’s really what the public will notice,” said Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger this week. He said it’s a priority because the city sees it as an economic issue, WCAX-TV reported. “Impacts the way people feel about the downtown, impacts the appeal of it,” the mayor said. City Councilor Ali Dieng said knowing the difference between art and expression is important.
