PFW to split College of Arts and Sciences
University also adds 2 degree programs; to take effect July 1

The College of Arts and Sciences at Purdue University Fort Wayne is readying for a split.
Under an academic restructuring that takes effect July 1, the university will have a new College of Liberal Arts and a new College of Science. The School of Education also will have an elevated profile as a stand-alone unit, according to a news release.
“This restructuring provides the university with greater clarity in the way we prepare our students, which we believe will aid in their success before and after they earn their Purdue degree,” Chancellor Ronald Elsenbaumer said in a statement.
“Drying the Nets” by Eleanor Brockenbrough is an oil on board piece that was added to Fort Wayne Museum of Art’s collection through purchase in 1925.
The 1986 blown glass work “Bagged Bags” by John Littleton and Kate Vogel was bought by the museum in 2014.
“An Individual Doesn t Get Cancer, A Family Does,” a 1995 oil on canvas over panel work by Hollis Sigler, was a gift that year from The Journal Gazette Foundation; the Gamma Lambda Chapter of Kappa, Kappa, Kappa; Colleen Benninghoff; General Electric Co.; the family of Vida M. Lamb in her memory; and the community.
Sylvia Hyman’s “Arrived by Post” stoneware and porcelain work from 2004 was bought in 2006 by the museum with money provided by the Hamilton Circle.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. Upcoming changes to the academic organizational structure at Purdue University Fort Wayne will include the creation of two new colleges and an elevated profile for the School of Education as a standalone unit. These and other modifications were approved Friday by the Purdue University Board of Trustees.
Beginning July 1, the existing College of Arts and Sciences will be split into two new colleges focusing on liberal arts and science, respectively. The School of Education s transition to a structure comparable to that of the Doermer School of Business will come as part of a dissolution of the College of Professional Studies.
Judge Pratt announces retirement

Allen Superior Court Judge Charles F. Pratt announced Monday he ll retire May 1 after more than 22 years on the bench of the court s Family Relations Division.
Pratt has been part of the Allen County judiciary more than 40 years. He was a law clerk from 1979-1980 and was elected judge in 1998, taking office in 1999. He was reelected in 2004, 2010 and 2016.
From 1985 until he became a judge, Pratt was a magistrate in the Family Relations Division. Before that, he was a judicial referee in Superior Court s Civil Division.
As a judge, Pratt has presided mainly over family relations, adoption and children in need of services cases. He has handled more than 200 adoptions each year and organized an annual Adoption Day for almost 15 years.
