Woman Arrested After Crashing Stolen Car From Greeley Parking Lot
A 32-year-old woman was arrested and jailed following reports that she had crashed a car that was left unlocked and running in a Greeley parking lot.
At about 10:55 a.m on Jan. 28, police say the owner of a 1999 silver Cadillac reported that his vehicle had been stolen after he left it running and unlocked as he ran inside a store on the 2600 block of 10th Street in Greeley.
According to the Greeley Tribune, police were able to obtain surveillance video showing a woman walking past the man’s vehicle before jumping in and driving off.
About 5,000 people live in Eaton, Colo., about 20 miles north of Greeley.
Drive north out of Greeley on Weld County Road 39 and you get a snapshot of Northern Colorado’s culture. The road is flanked by farms and oil wells and old prairie cemeteries. Trump campaign signs still stand proudly.
The last time Weld County voted for a Democrat for president was LBJ in 1964. There is still political diversity in Weld, but in the decades since, the subsequent shale boom and all the oil jobs it brought with it have driven the county even farther to the right.
But that’s just one part of the picture.
A 61-year-old Weld County man was arrested on Tuesday (January 12) following a five-hour long standoff with law enforcement.
According to a press release from the Weld County Sheriff s Office, at approximately 4 p.m., a deputy with the Civil Unit traveled to a home located in the 25400 block of Weld County Road 49, with the intention of serving Mark Robert Hamilton with a protection order.
The protection order was reportedly from a neighbor who had petitioned the courts over an unknown dispute.
When the deputy arrived at the residence, Hamilton refused to speak with him, and further argued that the sheriff s office didn t have jurisdiction. The deputy persisted in trying to persuade Hamilton to come out of the home, and continued to knock on the front door and windows.
