The Weld County Critical Incident Response Team is currently investigating a Greeley police officer-involved shooting incident that occurred Tuesday afternoon (Jan. 19) in Evans.
A 61-year-old Weld County man was arrested on Tuesday (January 12) following a five-hour long standoff with law enforcement.
According to a press release from the Weld County Sheriff s Office, at approximately 4 p.m., a deputy with the Civil Unit traveled to a home located in the 25400 block of Weld County Road 49, with the intention of serving Mark Robert Hamilton with a protection order.
The protection order was reportedly from a neighbor who had petitioned the courts over an unknown dispute.
When the deputy arrived at the residence, Hamilton refused to speak with him, and further argued that the sheriff s office didn t have jurisdiction. The deputy persisted in trying to persuade Hamilton to come out of the home, and continued to knock on the front door and windows.

The Weld County Sheriff s Office is warning the public about a police impersonation scam that resurfaced last week.
Back in November, a suspect was calling Weld County residents claiming to be Sgt. Pete Jones. The scammer told people that they had active warrants for their arrest, which would be cancelled if the scammer was paid in gift cards.
Last week, a resident of Weld County reported receiving the same type of call from a man who said he was Sgt. Pete Jones with the Weld County Sheriff’s Office. The scammer told the man that he had two active warrants out for his arrest - one for failing to appear in court and another for failing to report for jury duty. In addition, the suspect told the man that his fine totaled $1,000 and could be settled with gift cards.
