Daily Herald File Photo, 2018   Updated 2/11/2021 6:35 PM Palatine Township Elementary District 15 board members voted unanimously Wednesday to terminate a purchase agreement for part of a Palatine shopping center, ending long-debated plans to build a new school there. The board has spent more than two years considering a plan to locate the district s 21st school at the Park Place shopping center, on the southwest corner of Rand and Dundee roads. After extensions of the agreement to further review the plan and needs for a new school, the board was facing a Feb. 15 deadline to either call off the deal

Updated 1/13/2021 5:53 AM Some suburban school districts went back to in-person learning after the winter break, and more will be doing so in the coming weeks, some with added tools such as COVID-19 testing for staffs. Students in Palatine Township Elementary District 15 and Oak Grove Elementary District 68 were back last week after a pause for all-virtual learning between Thanksgiving and winter break. Algonquin-based Community Unit District 300 restarted with a hybrid learning model Monday.   Barrington Area Unit District 220, whose students had all-virtual learning this school year with the exception of a few days in late October, will implement hybrid learning starting Jan. 19. Libertyville-Vernon Hills Area High School District 128 will do the same.

  Updated 12/18/2020 12:03 PM Students in Palatine Township Elementary District 15 will return to in-person learning Jan. 5 as anticipated, but the district is asking families to consider having students quarantine if their winter break activities put them at increased risk for contracting COVID-19. Families will continue to have the option to keep their children in all-virtual learning.   Superintendent Laurie Heinz said in an email to parents Friday that the district will not extend its adaptive paused that started after Thanksgiving because data shows that, with appropriate measures, schools are not a primary ssource of spread of the respiratory disease. Those measures include masks, social distancing, hand washing and sanitation.

More than 480 school board candidates submitted paperwork on the first official filing day Monday across four locations set up by the Cook County clerk s office. That included 140 candidates who stood in line to hand in their petitions at Old Orchard Country Club in Mount Prospect.
