Let s get to it: ARLEY EARLS FROM LINDALE, TX: I heard that Jack ham never played football in high school. Is that true? ANSWER: It is not true. In the 1966 Bishop McCort Yearbook, there is a photo of Jack Ham in his uniform. In the photo, he is wearing jersey No. 66. After high school, Ham attended prep school at Massanutten in Woodstock, Va., where he played football but didn t play a lot or very well, either. Ham left Massanutten with no scholarship offers, but he did have a teammate named Steve Smear, a defensive lineman who had gotten a football scholarship to Penn State. When one of the Penn State recruits backed out of his commitment and signed with Iowa, there was an open spot, and Smear lobbied the coaches to give that scholarship to Ham. The Penn State coaching staff ended up reaching out to Ham with an offer late in the spring before his freshman year in college.

Asked and Answered: May 18 The Steelers Bob Labriola Let s get to it: AARON BREEZE FROM FRESNO, CA: The Steelers are going to let Kendrick Green wear No. 53? Jeez, Maurkice Pouncey has only been gone for five minutes. Nine Pro Bowls, two first-team All-Pro selections, and the center on the NFL s All-Decade team of the 2010s. Pouncey is a future Hall of Fame inductee in my book. I thought he had earned a little bit more respect than that. ANSWER: Fans really take this jersey number business seriously, often more seriously than it deserves. I love Maurkice Pouncey. Great player, great leader, great member of the Steelers, a great presence in the community. That stated, Jack Ham s final season with the Steelers was in 1982. In the 1983 NFL Draft, the Steelers used their third-round pick on a linebacker from San Diego State named Todd Seabaugh, who was issued No. 59. As good as Pouncey was, and I agree that he deserves a bust in Canton, Ohio, he was no Jack Ham. Not even close.

Matching up current and former Steelers to make a deadly duo - Behind the Steel Curtain

Oh, the possibilities… As the 2021 NFL offseason rages on, there are plenty of draft breakdowns and rookie mini camp updates to keep most fans going just enough to keep the NFL relevant. Taking a break from those things, it’s time to just sit back and dream. What if we could take members of the current Steelers roster and pair them up with any other member of the franchise throughout its history? Which ones would be the best? I decided to drop my top five and give others a chance to voice what pairs they would like to see. The criteria is simple: One player currently on the Steelers roster and another player at any time in the past who would work together either by completing a position group or some other connection. So here are my top five, counting down to number one.
