Former chancellor of the University System of Georgia Henry “Hank” M. Huckaby, 79, of Athens died April 14.
Huckaby, a life-long public servant, served the State of Georgia in numerous capacities for more than 50 years. He was named chancellor of the University System of Georgia in July 2011, just a few months after being elected as a member of the local delegation to the Georgia House of Representatives. He remained chancellor until his retirement in December 2016.
His career included several positions at the University of Georgia. He was director of the Carl Vinson Institute of Government (1997-2000), senior vice president of Finance and Administration (2000-2006) and a special assistant to the president on a part-time basis (2006-2009).

VALDOSTA, Ga. (WALB) - Some colleges and universities around the nation will have a new prerequisite for the fall semester, the COVID-19 vaccine.
They hope to return to a normal semester and keep everyone safe.
Right now, vaccines will not be required for students or staff at Valdosta State University (VSU). The university is offering vaccinations to students, staff and faculty.

Head to Athens on a weekday between September and May, and students will likely be flowing down Baxter Street from high-rise dormitories at the top of the hill toward the University of Georgia campus.
Young people have lived in each of the three nine- or 10-story towers on the hill Creswell Hall, Brumby Hall and Russell Hall for decades.
