Activists at Maryland want former Senate president s name off administration building

Credit: Robert Lang A group of University of Maryland students are petitioning to remove the late state Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller Jr. s name from the university s administration building, citing a record of racist and homophobic comments. The Diamondback reports the students are seeking the removal in line with a University System of Maryland policy adopted in December. The new policy allows community members to ask for the names of campus buildings to be changed or removed. The university announced the renaming of its administration building last June. The drive to take his name off the building predates his Jan. 15 death.
