University President Pat Pitney will present her State of the University Address at Noon Wednesday.
University of Alaska Southeast Chancellor Karen Carey offered those reminders on the KINY Morning Show.
The chancellor said they are looking for board approval of its new mission statement. She said the mission states, The University of Alaska Southeast is a student-centered university that provides instruction in liberal arts, professional and technical fields. On the homelands of the Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian people, we serve the coastal environments, cultures. economies and communities of Alaska through interdisciplinary education, workforce development, scholarship, research, and creative activity.

The chancellor said they were presented a check for $12,000 from the Southeast Conference during last week s Mid Session Summit that will be used for scholarships.

University of Alaska President Pat Pitney Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - University of Alaska President Pat Pitney told the Juneau Chamber of Commerce today (Thursday) that she sees an exciting opportunity in marine biology and fisheries for the University of Alaska Southeast. The place-based nature of the University of Alaska Southeast and that consolidation of fisheries management and the unique location of the campus and the interest of the community are all very aligned in that fisheries - marine biology - ocean sciences space, she said.
She asked how can they create a hub with all those resources. You said she was happy to report that UAS Chancellor Karen Carey is working with NOAA, the University of Fairbanks fisheries program, and beginning that process of elevating and attracting a more fisheries presence.. She added that that s one that they ll want to do in conjunction with the community.
