UHS all set to launch trial of second vaccine

LAHORE: University of Health Sciences (UHS) Vice-Chancellor Professor Javed Akram has said that his varsity is all set to launch the phase-III trial of another Chinese coronavirus vaccine from next week.
The university earlier ran the trial of Can Sino vaccine developed by Beijing Institute of Biotechnology. The trial registered 18,000 volunteers and is in the follow-up stage at the moment.
While presiding over a meeting in this regard here on Thursday, the veteran physician said that the National Bio-Ethics Committee had approved a phase-III (involving humans) randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial in local population with 18 years of age and above to determine the safety and efficacy of “ZF2001” – a recombinant novel coronavirus vaccine for prevention of COVID-19.
Says multiple taxation on private businesses driving investments in pharmaceutical industry away from Nigeria to Ghana
President, Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa, has warned the Federal Government against multiple taxation on private businesses as it may end in driving investment away from the country to neighbouring Ghana.
Ohuabunwa spoke at a public hearing on five bills organised by the Senate Committee on Health, chaired by Senator Ibrahim Oloriegbe.
The five bills are: Advanced Healthcare Development Fund (Est. Etc.) Bill 2020 (SB. 371); Federal Tertiary Teaching Hospitals Development Tax Fund (Est., Etc.) Bill, 2020 (SB. 136); Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (Repeal and Re-enactment) Bill, 2020 (SB. 480); Federal University of Health Sciences, Oturkpo, Benue State (Est., Etc.) Bill, 2020 (SB. 216); and National Maternal and Perinatal Deaths Surveillance (EST., Etc.) Bill, 2020 (SB. 518).

Physical Rehabilitation Network (PRN) announces the grand opening of its California Rehabilitation and Sports Therapy (Cal Rehab) clinic in Irvine, Calif, on behalf of its joint venture partnership with MemorialCare.

The exam, which started with the MBBS third professional Pharmacology paper, started at 9 am and ended at 12 noon.
The MBBS examinations, conducted under the auspices of the University of Health Sciences (UHS), on Wednesday kickstarted in medical colleges across Punjab.
According to the UHS spokesperson, about 6,368 candidates from 43 medical colleges are appearing in the exams.
UHS Vice-Chancellor Prof Javed Akram also visited the examination centres.
The exam, which started with the MBBS third professional Pharmacology paper, started at 9 am and ended at 12 noon.
