This school year has offered a number of challenges for students, parents and teachers alike as school districts across the nation struggled to adapt to the ever-changing landscape of a worldwide pandemic.
Despite those challenges, students and teachers pushed on navigating remote learning, pandemic safety protocols and a heavy dose of surrealism to close out a successful year for the Class of 2021.
Some area students have reached above and beyond, rising to the top of their classes as valedictorian and salutatorian, and will be honored during their schools respective graduation ceremonies.

Arkansas Times Academic All-Star Team, the 27th team the
Times has honored, includes quiz bowl savants, budding novelists, future engineers and doctors and championship athletes. There’s rarely a B on the transcripts of these students in not just this, their senior year, but in any year of their high school careers. Read on for stories of inspiration in these troubled times. And see lists of All-Star finalists and nominees.
Traditionally, the All-Star team is made up of 10 boys and 10 girls, but this year’s class of boys was so strong our judges, retired school counselor Sam Blair and nonprofit leader and former State Board of Education member Mireya Reith, insisted on 11 boys.

Boise State University has named John Buckwalter as provost and vice president for academic affairs.
Buckwalter joins Boise State after serving as the Betty L. Tointon endowed dean of the College of Health and Human Sciences at Kansas State University, as well as a professor in the Department of Kinesiology.
“John Buckwalter is an innovative, strong, and compassionate leader who received positive support from Deans, our Faculty Senate, and a wide range of campus constituents.
