Syd Carpenter was appointed to the Peggy Chan Professorship in Black Studies at Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania. An artist, Professor Carpenter’s work is represented in 17 collections nationally, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
Professor Carpenter holds a bachelor of fine arts degree and a master of fine arts degree from Temple University in Philadelphia.
Tiffany Murphy, associate professor of law and director of the Criminal Practice Clinic at the University of Arkansas School of Law, has been given the added duties as associate dean for academic affairs. She joined the University of Arkansas faculty in 2014 after teaching at the Oklahoma City University School of Law.

Thomas “Gary” Hudson will retire as CEO of Farmers & Merchants Bank (FMB) and The Bank of Fayetteville on Dec. 31 after leading the bank for the past 11 years, according to the instiution’s Facebook post.The incoming president and CEO will be Executive Vice-President Brad Chambless who will assume those duties Jan. 1.Under Hudson’s leadership Farmers and Merchants Bank has grown 300% in total assets, adding 20 branches across the state, including Mountain Home, with eight operating as The Bank of Fayetteville.
A native of DeWitt, Hudson earned his undergraduate degree at Arkansas State University and his juris doctorate from the University of Arkansas School of Law in Fayetteville. He is also a graduate of the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking at Southern Methodist University in Texas and has a 40-year banking career.
