University of Arkansas students and an elderly couple in Fayetteville are among the latest victims thieves have targeted.
The couple told 5NEWS they are now spending over $3k on a new converter.
Thermon and Karen Crocker live in an assisted living home and planned to use their RV to take their grandchildren camping soon. They were shocked to found out about their stolen catalytic converter.

Gary Crain with the University of Arkansas Police Department told 40/29 News.At about 3 a.m., a man approached a woman near Razorback Road and N. Maple Street and asked to use her phone, Crain said.When the woman refused, the man knocked her to the ground and tried to remove an article of her clothing.The man ran off when a car approached.He wasn t able to take her phone, and the woman wasn t injured.Police do not know the identity of the man.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. Campus police are investigating an attempted robbery and assault that happened early Friday (April 16) morning.
According to an alert sent out by the University of Arkansas Police Department (UAPD), at 3:00 a.m., a person not affiliated with the campus reported an attempted robbery and assault occurred on Razorback Road north of Maple Street.
The victim told officers a white male approached her on foot and asked to borrow her phone. She refused, and the suspect pushed her to the ground and made an attempt to remove her clothing before running away southbound on Razorback Road.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. Students were evacuated from dorms on the University of Arkansas campus Monday (Feb. 22) after a fire broke out at Reid Hall.
Several students were stuck in an elevator as firefighters put ladders on the roof of the building to see if anyone else was inside.
Fayetteville Fire Marshal Jeremy Ashley confirmed with 5NEWS it was an electrical fire. They first got a call about people stuck in an elevator, and when they arrived on the scene, crews found smoke coming from the electrical tunnels beneath Reid Hall and the Maple Hill dorms.
