Share this article Share this article WASHINGTON, April 23, 2021 /PRNewswire/ The Rockefeller Foundation announces a $1.49 million grant to the Consortium of Universities of the Washington Metropolitan Area to expand access to rapid-result Covid-19 testing to support K-12 schools reopening in Washington, D.C. and Baltimore. Developed by scientists at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, this innovative, but easy-to-implement saliva-based Covid-19 testing program, led by a coalition of Consortium universities, has been up and running in all 26 high schools in the Baltimore City Public Schools system since March 15. The grant from The Rockefeller Foundation will support the Consortium testing program in Baltimore City Public Schools (City Schools) and DC Public Charter Schools. The fourth finalist has been announced for the next University of Iowa president. The Iowa Now website reports that Daniel L. Clay, dean of the University of Iowa College of Education, will meet with the campus community Thursday and Friday. That includes a public forum which will occur Thursday afternoon at 3:30. Dean’s education includes a degree in Psychology from the College of Saint Scholastica in Duluth, a Masters in Educational and Counseling Psychology, a PhD in Counseling Psychology and an MBA in Business Administration from the University of Missouri. He also has a certificate in Higher Education Administration from Harvard.

First lady Jill Biden visits Illinois, stops in Dixon

By Grace Barbic Capitol News Illinois SPRINGFIELD First lady Jill Biden and U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona visited Sauk Valley Community College in Dixon on Monday to discuss how the American Rescue Plan will support higher education in Illinois. After touring the facility, Cardona and the first lady announced President Joe Biden’s investment in higher education through the American Rescue Plan, the latest federal COVID-19 pandemic relief package, which includes $40 billion for higher education infrastructure projects and programs to make education more accessible. Gov. JB Pritzker was also in attendance for the visit on Monday, along with other Illinois lawmakers, but did not speak publicly.
