(WFIE) - Senior guard Emma DeHart (Indianapolis, Indiana) exploded for 28 points in the final 15 minutes of play as No. 23 University of Southern Indiana Women’s Basketball rallied from a 13-point second-half deficit to earn a 96-86 Great Lakes Valley Conference road win over Rockhurst University in overtime Saturday afternoon. DeHart, who had 11 points in the overtime period, finished the contest with a career-high 39, bettering her previous career-high of 28 points against McKendree University earlier in the year.

Education Groups Ask Pritzker To Expand Vaccine Eligibility To Higher Ed Employees

Faculty, staff and other advocates for Illinois colleges and universities are asking Gov. JB Pritzker to allow higher education employees to receive COVID-19 vaccines during the state’s current phase of vaccine rollout. Illinois has been in Phase 1b of its vaccination campaign for nearly two weeks, but the frontline essential workers currently eligible for COVID vaccines only include teachers and staff at pre-K through 12 schools. The Illinois Federal of Teachers this week sent a petition to the governor and the Illinois Department of Public Health urging them to revise the rollout’s eligibility requirements. The petition currently has over 3,000 signatures.

At Mankato East High School, star football player Eli Olson signed his National Letter of Intent to play at the University of Minnesota Duluth. ”I’m just excited to know I get to play four or five more years. UMD is a great program, great culture, great coaches. It’s going to be a great place to go up to, keep working, get better every day and see where it takes me.”

A political scientist with University of Illinois Springfield said the bill may give voters too much control. State Rep. Mark Batinick, a Republican floor leader from Plainfield, said his party wants to empower voters. This is more of a position-taking kind of exercise. It s always important to have conversations after an election, so I certainly welcome being a party that listens to all sorts of viewpoints and having those conversations,” said Batinick. One of the amendments introduced, filed in both the House and the Senate, would change the state constitution initiative process to widen the range of amendments voters can put on the ballot.

Jason Noyes Named 2020 UIS Employee Of The Year

He was honored during a virtual reception on February 2, 2021. Before announcing the winner, UIS Interim Chancellor Karen Whitney thanked the eleven Employees of the Month who were nominated for the award. Noyes, who was the May 2020 Employee of the Month, is described as always going “above and beyond” each and every day to help students, faculty and staff. As Help Desk manager, he manages a team of student workers who typically respond to computer and other technical issues seven days a week.
