LAWRENCE – A new conference created by a privacy law scholar at the University of Kansas School of Law aims to explore privacy beyond abstract concepts.
Najarian Peters, associate professor at the KU School of Law, said the inaugural Privacy Praxis Conference will explore the broad spectrum of privacy expertise. The term “praxis” comes from the combination of theory and practice, Peters said.
“When we think about privacy expertise, we’re saying that this is not just scholarship it is also inclusive of advocacy and community work that lives in the world,” Peters said.
The conference will highlight expertise in privacy by academic scholars as well as those with expertise outside of the formal academy.

Katie Bray Barnett was in her last year at the University of Kansas School of Law in 2010 when she started thinking about organizing a conference for nonprofit animal shelters.
She grew up volunteering in shelters, adopted her own dogs and even decided to pursue a career in law to prevent cities from banning pit bulls and other specific breeds. She planned to work with her local shelter in Lawrence, Kansas, after she graduated and wanted to help animal advocates and attorneys who were interested in doing the same in their communities.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KFVS) - Governor Mike Parson has announced eight appointments to various boards and commissions.
Those appointed include:
Debra Ann Schumer, of Jackson, was appointed to the State Board of Health and Senior Services.
Schumer is the manager of Saint Francis Healthcare System’s Nutrition Services Department and Diabetes Education & Management Center. She has over 15 years of clinical experience as well as experience in long-term care and academia.
