The Shawnee County commissioners approved a contract with Erin Locke to serve as the county’s new health officer.
Locke has a master in public health from the University of Kansas School of Medicine and currently serves as the COVID-19 incident command liaison officer at the Holton Community Hospital, where she currently works.
“She brings that knowledge for the COVID-19 response to Shawnee County,” said Craig Barnes, division manager of the health department s Community Health Outreach and Planning program, at Thursday’s commissioners meeting. “We are extremely excited about the potential of having Dr. Erin Locke as our health officer.”

Dr. Khalil Alleyne was recently named chief of family medicine at South Shore Medical Center.
In his new role, Alleyne will oversee the family medicine department while supporting providers, developing new programs and processes and striving to enhance clinical medicine.
“Dr. Alleyne brings a wealth of knowledge to the position and we are excited to have him on board in this new role,” said David Halle, medical director of the ambulatory care division at South Shore Health.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to lead this department, especially during an unprecedented time for our medical center,” said Alleyne. “COVID-19 has presented some challenges for our health system, including increased demands on staffing, developing strategies for administering the COVID-19 vaccine in our community, and changes to primary care practice styles.
