Those who had contact with dead police commissioner asked to report for isolation

By Emma Una THE Chief Medical Director, CMD, of the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital has directed all those who had close contact with the late Cross River Police Commissioner to report for isolation. Professor Ikpeme Ikpeme gave the directive while reacting to the death of Mr Jimoh Ibrahim the Cross River State Police Commissioner at the COVID-19 Isolation Centre in the hospital this morning. He said Ibrahim was brought to the hospital practically dead and advised all those who were with him to report for COVID-19 tests and self isolation. Mr Ibrahim who is from Kwara State died at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, UCTH, reportedly of pneumonia complications.

He died on Friday morning at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital allegedly of COVID-19-related ailment. The Chief Medical Director of the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Prof. Ikpeme Ikpeme confirmed the death of Jimoh. He said the CP was brought into the hospital on Friday dead. “He was dead on arrival. COVID-19 protocols will be followed before his body will be evacuated,” Ikpeme said. The CMD also advised all those who were with him to visit the hospital for COVID-19 test and subsequently be on self insolation.

Disclosing this development to Vanguard, a reporter with AIT in Calabar, Mr Rasheed Olarewaju, said the Commissioner of Police was rushed to the UCTH this morning where he gave up the ghost. While many have said Mr Ibrahim died of coronavirus complications, Olarewaju said, “Nobody should tell you he died of COVID-19, the doctors said he died of pneumonia”.

A source close to the man,  Mr Rasheed Olariwaju the AIT reporter in Cross River told Vanguard that the man was rushed to the UCTH this morning where gave up the ghost. “Nobody should tell you he died of COVID-19 but the doctors said he died of pneumonia”.
