Pfizer’s application for FDA full approval of its COVID-19 vaccine has UC leaders confident they’ll implement a vaccine requirement for fall. CSU campuses would follow suit.
University of California Board of Regents Chair John A. Pérez and UC President Michael V. Drake, M.D., today (May 14) issued the following statement on Gov. Newsom’s revised 2021-22 budget:
The University of California is deeply grateful to Gov. Newsom for proposing the largest state investment in UC’s history: more than $807 million, which includes more than $506 million in ongoing funding for core campus operations, student needs and medical training. The budget, with the support of legislative leadership, reflects an earlier agreement to fully restore more than $300 million in budget reductions that were enacted in the 2020 state budget.

University of California Health, led by Dr. Carrie L. Byington, has conducted an statewide COVID-19 vaccination drive.
In Dr. Carrie L. Byington, the novel coronavirus met a formidable foe.
As an expert in infectious disease, Byington has been uniquely suited to use her role as executive vice president and head of University of California Health (UCH) to battle the virus that triggered a global pandemic. On April 26, UCH announced it had administered 1 million doses through a statewide COVID-19 vaccination drive.
“It has been, and will continue to be, a team effort,” Byington said. “I could not be more proud of all the people across the UC who are rising to meet every challenge and working to end the pandemic.”
