2 law firms exploring civil suits in Wayne Hankey assault allegations

McKiggan Hebert and Wagners Law Firm are both working with people who have come forward as possible complainants. Hankey, 76, who taught at both the University of King s College and Dalhousie University for decades, is already facing three criminal charges. Two are sexual assault charges one in connection with an incident that occurred on the King s campus in 1988 and another that dates back to 1982 and the third is an indecent assault charge related to multiple incidents that took place between 1977 and 1979.

In lockdown, Halifax universities backtrack on reopening plans

Mount Saint Vincent University vice-president Mustansar Nadeem addressed the community yesterday in a public letter. The university will shift recently announced in-person summer classes back online. It will be closing gyms and reducing capacity in the library and archives. Faculty and staff are being encouraged to work from home whenever possible. Dalhousie University provost and vice-president Frank Harvey also reached out to students, faculty and staff in an open letter on April 22. “Dalhousie’s planning for the fall, based on vaccine timelines, continues to focus on a return to in-person learning and work, but our immediate concern must be on increasing our efforts to stem the current outbreaks,” he wrote.

Former University of King s College professor charged with second historical sexual assault, indecent assault

  HALIFAX A long-time professor at Halifax’s University of King’s College, who was already facing one charge of sexual assault, is now facing a second charge of sexual assault and a charge of indecent assault. Halifax Regional Police say officers in the Sexual Assault Investigation Team have charged 76-year-old Wayne John Hankey of Halifax in relation to historical sexual assaults that occurred in Halifax in the late 1970s to the 1980s. Hankey was charged with one count of sexual assault in relation to an alleged incident against a man that occurred in 1982, and one count of indecent assault in relation to alleged incidents against a different man that occurred between 1977 and 1979.
