SOUTHERN COLORADO â Rioters in support of President Donald Trump attacked the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday, bringing a joint session to certify the Electoral College results of the presidential election to a halt. Legislators reconvened later in the day, but before they did, many Colorado politicians released statements, condemning the violence.
Congressman Ken Buck, in conjunction with Governor Jared Polis, released the following bi-partisan statement:
While the local inflation rate slowed to 2.3% in 2019 from 2.8% in 2018, it was exceeded only by Greeley’s 2.6% inflation rate among those metro areas, according to data the agency released this week. Colorado Springs’ inflation rate was slightly ahead of the statewide rate of 2.2% and well ahead of the national rate of 1.5%, though prices in Colorado Springs still remain slightly below the national average.
Nearly all of the reason for the inflation was housing costs, which increased at 2.9% and were 11.4% above the national average, the agency found. Other goods and services increased slightly. Prices in Colorado Springs were 99.3% of the national average last year, the closest they have been to the average since 2015. Prices in Boulder, Denver and Fort Collins were all above the national average in 2019.

The April 6, 2021, city election offers voters a chance to decide a majority of members on City Council at a time when many say decisions about land-use and other matters will have long-lasting impacts on the cityâs future.Â
Six of nine Council seats are up for grabs, and three of those six are open seats because term limits bar incumbents from seeking a third four-year term. The other three incumbents can run, but one may not, which would throw another seat into the mix.
So far, those interested in running include a retired Army colonel, a televangelist and a firefighter who is eligible to seek a Council seat due to a recent change in the cityâs Personnel Policy Manual. Heâd have to give up his city job if elected.
While often referred to in a joking manner, rocket science seriously needs more engineers, and an expansion at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs will funnel more educated workers into the growing field of astronautical engineering.
A $3.5 million donation from the Anschutz Foundation, the charitable arm of the Denver-based Anschutz Corp., whose holdings include The Gazette, will jumpstart construction of a 24,000-square-foot annex to the campus College of Engineering and Applied Science, officials said Wednesday.
The announcement comes as local and state officials make their final plea to the federal government to name Colorado Springs as the permanent headquarters of U.S. Space Command. Colorado Springs is one of six cities in the nation under consideration as being ground zero for the developing military branch and houses its temporary location at Peterson Air Force Base.
