Positive messages encourage safer driver behaviour than fear tactics ANI | Updated: Dec 15, 2020 22:15 IST Southampton [England], December 15 (ANI): A new study has shown that films demonstrating responsible behaviour could lead to young drivers taking fewer risks on the road than if they only saw videos aimed at provoking fear of accidents. The study lead by the University of Southampton researchers was published in the journal Risk Analysis. Over one million people are killed in road accidents each year and drivers below the age of 25 account for nearly half of road deaths. Dr Yaniv Hanoch, Associate Professor of Risk Management at the University of Southampton said, Governments around the world have adopted a plethora of interventions aimed at encouraging safer driving, the majority of which use fear-based content, such as graphic depictions of sudden car crashes. Professor Michael Butler Appointed New Southampton Dean of Engineering and Physical Sciences From 1 st January 2021, Professor Butler will follow on from Professor Philip Nelson who has been serving as Interim Dean of the Faculty since the departure of Professor Bashir Al-Hashimi earlier this year. Lancaster University recognised for excellence in cyber security education

· Abertay University Edinburgh Napier University was successful in being recognised with a Silver award. Each of the successful Gold centres demonstrated they offer at least one NCSC-certified degree, deliver top cyber security training to staff and students from other specialisms within the university, work to improve the institution’s cyber resilience and carry out local outreach activities. This Gold award for education adds to Lancaster University’s cyber security recognition, which includes recognition by the NCSC of Lancaster’s Security Institute as an Academic Centre of Excellence for Cyber Security Research, and Lancaster University’s Master’s degree in Cyber Security has been certified by the NCSC.

University of Southampton Launches Pulse Surveys he University of Southampton launched a new feedback survey called Pulse. Pulse surveys are an opportunity for both students and staff to provide the University with feedback on the new ways of learning and working during the transition of necessitating COVID-19. It is a chance to provide feedback on the ways the adjustments made are affecting them. The University expects the survey will help them understand the extent to which students and staff feel supported, in order to identify which methods are efficiently working and where improvements could be implemented. Both students and staff received an email on the 1st of December with a link to the voluntary survey, with the deadline to complete it by the 14th of December.
