1 critically hurt in Dan Ryan shooting

CHICAGO - A person was critically wounded after a shooting on the Dan Ryan expressway Thursday afternoon in Park Manor.
About 5:37 p.m., a three people were traveling in a vehicle on I-94 when shots were fired near 71st Street, according to preliminary information from Illinois State Police.
A male passenger, whose age was not immediately known, was shot and was taken in critical condition to the University of Chicago Medical Center, Chicago Fire officials and state police said.
The male driver and female passenger were not injured, state police said.

CHICAGO - Eight people were wounded in shootings across Chicago Thursday, including a male critically hurt in an attack on the Dan Ryan expressway.
About 5:40 p.m., three people were traveling in a vehicle on I-94 when someone fired shots near 71st Street, according to preliminary information from Illinois State Police.
A male passenger, whose age was not immediately known, was shot and taken in critical condition to the University of Chicago Medical Center, Chicago Fire officials and state police said.

The male and female officers carried him 100 yards, and then placed him in the back of their squad car.
The door slammed, and they raced to the University of Chicago Medical Center. A lady waved us down and said there was somebody shot in her backyard, said Chicago police officer Julius Givens.

One-third of the nation s hospitals received A grades for the quality of care they provide, according to the Leapfrog Group s annual survey, which graded more than 2,700 acute care facilities nationwide. Another 24% received B grades, suggesting that the nation s hospitals are generally performing well in terms of the quality and safety of care being delivered.
More rare are the 27 straight A hospitals that have received the top grade for each of the 19 annual surveys the Leapfrog Group has performed to date. They include facilities such as Brigham and Women s Faulkner Hospital in Boston, the Mayo Clinic s hospital in Phoenix and the University of Chicago Medical Center.

RUSH HELPS REVISE NEW CMS HOSPITAL STAR RATINGS: Nearly one-third of hospitals scored higher star ratings under CMS new methodology that s meant to create a clearer picture of quality and safety, according to data released Wednesday.
It s the first time CMS has applied the new methodology, and 45% of hospitals received the same star rating as before. Nearly a quarter, 22.7% of acute-care hospitals, had worse ratings.
Fourteen percent of hospitals under the new methodology received five stars, including Rush University Medical Center and Rush Oak Park Hospital. Both hospitals had 5-stars under the earlier formula, and clinicians and others from the Rush helped shape the new methodology.
