A police officer with the Norfolk Southern Railroad exchanged gunfire with a suspect Saturday evening in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on Chicago s Southwest Side, authorities stated.
The incident was reported at approximately 6:11 p.m. in the 4800 block of South Halsted.
The officer, who was on-duty at the time, was shot during a gun battle, a Chicago Fire Department spokesperson said. The officer wasn t injured, but was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center as precaution.

No other injuries were reported, and the fire was extinguished by 10:50 p.m., the fire department said.

A person was shot to death Friday evening in Austin on the West Side, police said.
The male, whose age was unknown, was shot about 5:25 p.m. as he sat in a vehicle in the 5300 block of West Van Buren Street, according to Chicago police.
Police said someone in a dark-colored vehicle pulled up and opened fire, striking the male multiple times in the body.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. The Cook County medical examiner’s office has not yet identified the male.

CHICAGO - A man was carjacked Saturday in South Shore on the South Side.
About 6:45 a.m., the 30-year-old was in the 6900 block of South Paxton Avenue, when he was approached by two males who flashed a gun and demanded his property, Chicago police said.
