The car was possibly a dark-colored 2009-2012 Chevy Malibu with front-end damage near the driver’s side headlight, police said.
The woman was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center and the boy was brought to Comer Children’s Hospital, police said. They were both pronounced dead.
The boy was the woman’s nephew, a law enforcement source said.
Gutierrez lived in Avondale, while Giovanne was a Gage Park resident, the medical examiner’s office said.

Six people were shot, one of them fatally Tuesday in Chicago, including a man who was fatally shot in Garfield Park.
About 12:45 p.m., a man in his 30s was shot in the chest in the 700 block of North Ridgeway Avenue, Chicago police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The Cook County medical examiner’s office did not immediately release details on the death.
In non-fatal shootings, a 65-year-old woman was wounded when she was struck by a stray bullet inside a home in Avalon Park on the South Side. She was inside a residence in the 8500 block of South Dante Avenue about 11:20 p.m., when someone fired shots from outside striking her in the thigh, police said. The woman was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition.

Three people were shot inside a trailer home Thursday morning in Hegewisch on the Far South Side, according to preliminary information from Chicago police.
They were inside a home in the 4000 block of East 134th Street about 1:22 a.m., when shots were fired, police said.
A 29-year-old woman was struck in the abdomen and taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition, police said. A 25-year-old man was shot in the arm and taken to the same hospital in fair condition.
A 35-year-old man was also struck in the arm, but taken to Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, police said. He is also in fair condition.
Three people were shot inside a trailer home in Hegewisch on far South Side, Chicago, police said. One is left in critical condition while two are in stable condition.
