Calgary high school student joins exclusive NASA internship program

TORONTO A 17-year-old’s passion for science and technology has landed him a spot in the world’s most famous space program. Alessandro Greco from Calgary is one of 800 grade 10 and 11 students who applied for NASA’s STEM Enhancement in Earth and Space summer internship program for high school students. The program is being held virtually over the summer with some on-site opportunities at the University of Texas at Austin’s Center for Space Research. Students will learn how to interpret NASA satellite data while working with scientists and engineers in their chosen area of work. Greco says he first became interested in space at a young age when his parents bought him a telescope. Since then, he’s been focused on learning more science, math, engineering and technology.

Calgary student interning in NASA program

CALGARY A passion for science and technology has landed a 17-year-old Calgarian on the doorstep of a legendary U.S. space program. Alessandro Greco is no stranger to interning. Since grade nine, he s been spending his summers with University of Calgary professors. I ve always been trying to figure out how things worked and then in grade eight I started to get involved in robotics, said Greco. I was inspired by some of the NASA robotics scientists that worked there and what they were doing and it was really cool. He heard a NASA administrator speak at the Robotics World Championships in Houston and that piqued his interest. Greco was one of 800 grade 10 and 11 students who applied for the STEM Enhancement in Earth and Space Science (SEES) summer internship to be held at the University of Texas at Austin’s Center for Space Research.

Trump s election lies were among his most popular tweets CNBC 1/13/2021 Nate Rattner A CNBC analysis of President Trump s tweets since he was inaugurated found that his most popular and frequent posts largely spread disinformation and distrust. Of Trump s 10 most popular tweets, four contained false claims related to the 2020 election results. Of his 100 most popular posts, 36 contained election-related falsehoods.  Following the U.S. Capitol riot, Twitter permanently banned President Donald Trump s account due to the risk of further incitement of violence. Blocked from using his preferred tool for public communication, Trump left behind 88 million followers, some 16,000 now-deleted tweets while in office, and a legacy of spreading disinformation and distrust on the platform.
