Topotecan, a cancer inhibitor, interacts with an important protein (TopoIB), causing a (cancer) cell to malfunction. The TopoIB protein is responsible for the removal of loops from DNA, which arise amongst other things during cell division.
The TopoIB protein binds to the DNA molecule, clamps around it and cuts one of the two DNA strands, after which it allows it to unwind and finally joins the broken ends together.
Until now it has been supposed that topotecan only causes the TopoIB protein to reside longer than normal on the DNA molecule, disturbing the cell division and damaging the (cancer) cell. But the researchers at the University of Delft have now discovered that adding topotecan also dramatically impedes the unwinding and that DNA loops accumulate as a result. The accumulation of these DNA loops forms the basis for an alternative mechanism, and could help in the development of better cancer medicine.
Dynamic Yacht Platform heralds in a more efficient and customized design process
A significant challenge when building a new superyacht is to fulfil the owner’s wish for a custom boat without spending large amounts of time and money on designing and building a hull from scratch.
An innovative yacht platform concept
Jeroen Jungschlager, Project Manager at C-Job, shares the company’s experience: “With our Northern European shipyard clients in the yacht building industry, we saw engineering design was taking quite a long time for each yacht. We had the idea that it could be improved and the process speeded up. Platforms are not new, but most are limited to a certain length and beam and have been developed by a yard’s in-house team. C-Job, as an independent company, came up with this new idea of a Dynamic Yacht Platform that could benefit several shipyards. We thought: ‘How can we serve all these yards and make a platform which is not limited in size – one that can be stre
History
Puzha.com is a passionate idea the founders took to the next level in 1998 by establishing it as a business unit. At that time, offering Malayalam content to the readers around the world through internet meant more than the technology and the internet access itself. Creating awareness among writers to provide content, baby stepping internet users to use fonts, training the staff to create web ready content and in short, everything looked quite challenging! Started off in a small facility near the Market Gate of IIT Bombay, Puzha was relocated to Aluva in 1999 with an expanded team of editorial staff. The Puzha.com portal was formally launched in 2000 and by that time it had made all interactive publishing features, Chowara text editor, and all web utilities available to the visitors. There are three âfirstsâ associated with Puzha.com â The first internet malayalam magazine, the first interactive portal and the first Malayalam online bookstore.
