Scientists discover 3 extinct giant rodents in PHL, say human activities may have led to disappearance

After a four-year study, scientists from University of the Philippines, National Museum of the Philippines, and Field of Museum of Natural History in the US discovered Carpomys dakal, the largest of the fossil cloud rat named so because it was “much larger compared to the known living species in the same genus”; Crateromys ballik, which was “slightly smaller than the living Crateromys species in Luzon”; and Batomys cagayanensis, named after the place where the archeological sites were located.

DLSU implements no fail policy

De La Salle University (DLSU) (dlsu.edu.ph) The policy is in effect starting Term 2 of the academic year 2020-2021 until further notice. “The No Fail Policy means that the grade of withdrawn (W) shall be reported in place of a 0.0. A mark of W means that credit is not earned for the course but it is not considered a failure. The W mark is not included in the computation of the GPA,” the university said. Ineligibility rules are likewise suspended. According to DLSU, the policy of W instead of 0.0 is applicable to every undergraduate and graduate student, including the College of Law.

Chua promoted to chief economic planner

Chua as socioeconomic planning secretary as well as head of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA). One-year after serving the positions in an acting capacity, Chua is now officially the government’s chief economist and development planner. Chua, a former official in the Department of Finance (DOF), was appointed as acting NEDA director-general after former Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Ernesto Pernia stepped down from office in April last year. NTF adviser apologizes for death by community pantry tweet

Dr. Ted Herbosa (Ted Herbosa’s Facebook) On Friday, April 23, Herbosa reacted to reports of a senior citizen who succumbed to a heart attack while in line at a community pantry organized by Angel Locsin in Quezon City. In a Twitter post, Herbosa described the death of the senior citizen as “death by community pantry,” adding “I told you so!” Herbosa since apologized, saying his tweet “may have sounded like a criticism but was ill-judged.” “I support community pantries as acts of kindness. What I had intended to say was I object to violations of public health standards, which increase transmission of COVID-19,” he wrote on Facebook late Friday.
